Wednesday, Jan 20 - 2016 | By Akshaya Sahoo

“Odisha Pride Youth Vuillage - 2016", a state level youth conference is proposed to be organised at, Baliapal in Balasore district of Odisha state where some 7000 enthusiastic students and youth of Odisha are expected to participate from almost all parts of the state. This will not only be a unique experience for the students and youth of Odisha , moreover they will acquire wide gamut of information and motivation from the thinkers, visionaries and experts regarding character building, career advancement, skill development, youth volunteering and many more.

Some say that humans are inherently selfish and evolutionarily programmed to make decisions that serve their own interest and ensure their own survival. Yet, evolution doesn’t and can’t explain why some people willingly give up on their future, their dreams and their life so that others can live. Here we can create a history by making ourselves a change agent.

Objectives

The 5 prime objectives on which this mega event will be focussed are: Youth Volunteerism, Youth Skills Development, Motivation to Village Youth Mass, Youth for Protection of Environment & Tribal Development and the Youth Awakening.

Youth Skills Development: Young people are increasingly acting as the agents of change in the society. In India about 65% of the population is below 35 years of age. But due to lack of education, skills and awareness, a sizable part of this population is now facing major challenges in seeking employment. Skills Development training for marginalized and underprivileged youth can meet these challenges and also fulfil Govt. of India's target of training 500 million youth by 2022 through "Skill India Mission". Skills Development can provide opportunities to all who participate, learn and utilize the skills effectively in their jobs. The focal point of discussion in this session regarding Skills Development would be the kind of Skills Development opportunities available for the youth and how they can be best benefitted from it.

Youth Volunteerism: Youth Volunteerism is defined as an activity undertaken out of free will for general public good and where monetary reward is not the principal motivating factor. The youth of Odisha have deep values of solidarity, compassion and empathy and sense of service for the society. Therefore Youth Volunteering has become an integral part of all activities undertaken by Odisha Pride. In this session the enthusiastic and stalwart youth would put an exemplary by offering free service for betterment of the society.

Motivation to Village Youth Mass: Youth are the future of modern India. Our state or our country cannot progress much without the progress of our villages. The youth of the villages have immense potential to change the fate of their own villages through their active involvement in various developmental activities . They should dedicate themselves in developing as many model villages as possible. They should create awareness among the villagers about the menace of illicit drugs. They can also start their own enterprise at village level. There should be strong and active youth group in every villages so that issues relating to Sanitation, Environment, Agriculture and Disaster can be met easily. This session would focus on the role of village youth for shaping their own fate and guidance from experts.

Youth for Protection of Environment & Tribal Development: Youth can play important roles in protecting and improving the environment. They can not only adopt environment friendly practices but also make the people aware about these practices and preserve our natural resources. This session would emphasize on issues relating to environment and their solutions vis a vis role of youth. Engagement of youth in environment protection will not only create direct impact on changing youth behaviour but also it will influence their families, relatives, communities, villages and at large the society.

Youth Awakening: The most important and fundamental objective of this event is youth awakening. According to Swami Vivekananda - "Supreme value of youth period is incalculable and indescribable.

The way in which you utilize this period will decide the nature of coming years that lie ahead of you. Your happiness, your success, your honour and your good name all depend upon the way in which you live now, in this present period. Remember this." Swamiji had full faith in the infinite potentials...the energy that Youth possessed....but the biggest and the only hindrance he felt to that was the Unawareness...the Sleepiness... Hence he had exhorted...Arise...Awake...

This session would throw light on Swami Vivekananda's call and dream for our motherland - a place free from sufferings and miseries, free from all superstitions and notions. And for the fulfilment of this dream Youth of this nation were his biggest hope and trust.

Activities: Luminaries include social activists, academicians, spiritual leaders, industrialists, young achievers, Government policy makers who will join the event to motivate and create awareness among the youth. There will be parallel sessions, training and open forum by experts during day time and cultural performances by youth icons in the evening. All participants would receive certificates and distinguished young visionaries would be conferred with awards and mementos.

Benefits to the Youth: Benefits of the youth is not a panacea for all of the challenges that youth face, it contributes to societal well-being as well as to the development of young volunteers themselves. The motivating sessions can support young people to become active leaders and citizens and serves as an important tool for engagement in society. The objective of the event is not only to mobilize youth for identifying their training needs, but also for raising awareness among them on skills training and counselling them to develop a sense of confidence among them.

Benefits to the Society: The event would benefit both communities and the youth volunteers themselves. Bringing the diversity of perspectives and experiences of young people into programme design and implementation, there would be perceptible changes in the society.
