Maoist breaks lull, kills Panchyat Chief and other in Malkangiri

Sunday, Dec 27 - 2015 | By Niranjan Malla

Report by Niranjan Malla, Malkangiri: After a month long silence, the Maoists in a gruesome incident on Friday night killed the Badpadar Sarpanch Jayaram Khara under Chitrakonda police limits and later Sahadev Badnayak of Raba village under Orkel police limits in the wee hours , thereby putting the security personnel's on back foot.

Daring the 104 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel's, deployed just 300 meter from Khara's house, about 10-20 slogan shouting Ultras armed with Light Machine Guns (LMG) , AK-47 and traditional weapons barged into the house of Badpadar Gram Panchyat incumbent Jayaram Khara at about 11.00 pm on Friday night and asked the whereabouts of Khara from his relatives sleeping in the house, eyewitnesses said.

Knowing Khara taking rest in another room, the rebels reportedly entered there and tied his hands before dragging him out to the varanda where they first mercilessly axed on his head and later slit the throat with a sharp edged weapon killing him on the spot following heavy bleeding while branding him as a police informer.

Khara, a second time Sarpanch elected from Badpadar panchyat and Congress ticket aspirant from Chitrakonda assembly constituency for the forthcoming assembly poll in 2019 was the target of the police a year back for his alleged link with the rebels. He had also to fight a legal battle after police reportedly lodged a series of cases of serious charges against him. But later, Jayaram became close to the police with the intervention of the police high ups in the last few months which irked the rebels. Threatened by the rebels to snap ties with police ,Khara had left his home turf since then. With Jayaram had been to Badpadar few days back, the Maoists took the advantage and killed him.

In another incident, a group of rebels thronged to the Raba village under Orkel police limits in the wee hours on Friday and killed one Saha devi Badanayak, the brother of the former Sarpanch by slitting his throat on the charges of being a police informer. Like, Jayaram, Sahadev too had left the village and was staying in Kudmulgumma. He had been to nis native village just a week ago.

Border Security Forces have intensified the massive manhunt in the cut-off region, where both the incidents took place to nab the culprits after the incident.
